Surf breaks, blufftop campsites, and a seawall you can walk end to end. Here's where to get on the sand, and what you'll find when you do.

Pick it up a block below Carlsbad Village Drive and follow it almost a mile down to Tamarack Avenue. Half an hour there and back, ocean on your right the whole way.
Oak Avenue to the Oceanside border
This northern run sits in front of private coastal property, yet the public has a right of way throughout via easements — and the city keeps a series of marked entrances open along it.
Public restrooms at nearby Magee Park, on Beech Avenue and Garfield Street.
Oak Avenue south to nearly Cannon Road
The busiest part of the Carlsbad shoreline, covering Frazee State Beach, the Tamarack surf break, and the jetty by the old power plant where the water runs warmer. A paved seawall links Pine and Tamarack, and a second one carries on south of Tamarack if you want to keep going.
Public restrooms and showers at both ends of the path. Dogs on leash are allowed on the upper path only — not on the lower path or the sand.
La Costa Avenue to Palomar Airport Road
Camping on the bluff above the sand — 220 sites, per the city, and they fill months out. Two day-use areas sit alongside, and the Ponto beaches (north and south) fall inside this stretch.
Restrooms and showers at South Ponto; a restroom at North Ponto. Sites can be booked up to six months out through California State Parks.
